Single-Hop Special Bitter Recipe and Notes

I brewed a Single-Hop Special Bitter last night. I didn’t have a full-blown recipe, but here are the ingredients I used:

  • 6.6 lbs Muntons Light LME
  • 2 oz. (U.S. Grown) Kent Goldings Pellet Hops at 60 Minutes
  • 1 oz. (U.S. Grown) Kent Goldings Pellet Hops at 0 Minutes
  • 1 packet Nottingham dry ale yeast

Nice and simple. The O.G. for the beer was 1.050.

Notes that may affect the outcome:

  • I realized after the fact that I added the first addition of hops too early. I added them when I added the malt extract to the boiling water instead of adding them to the wort when it returned to a boil.
  • There was some burned-on wort on the bottom of the pot that may contribute off-flavors
